【摘要】:Newandusedpetroleumproductsmaycontainacidicconstituentsthatarepresentasadditivesorasdegradationproductsformedduringservice,suchasoxidationproducts.Therelativeamountofthesematerialscanbedeterminedbytitratingwithbases.Theacidnumberisameasureofthisamountofacidicsubstanceintheoil,alwaysundertheconditionsofthetest.Theacidnumberisusedasaguideinthequalitycontroloflubricatingoilformulations.Itisalsosometimesusedasameasureoflubricantdegradationinservice.Anycondemninglimitsmustbeempiricallyestablished.Sinceavarietyofoxidationproductscontributetotheacidnumberandtheorganicacidsvarywidelyincorrosionproperties,thetestmethodcannotbeusedtopredictcorrosivenessofoilunderserviceconditions.Nogeneralcorrelationisknownbetweenacidnumberandthecorrosivetendencyofoilstowardmetals.1.1Thistestmethodcoversproceduresforthedeterminationofacidicconstituentsinpetroleumproductsandlubricantssolubleornearlysolubleinmixturesoftolueneandpropan-2-ol.Itisapplicableforthedeterminationofacidswhosedissociationconstantsinwaterarelargerthan10-9;extremelyweakacidswhosedissociationconstantsaresmallerthan10-9donotinterfere.Saltsreactiftheirhydrolysisconstantsarelargerthan10-9.Therangeofacidnumbersincludedintheprecisionstatementis0.1mg/gKOHto150mg/gKOH.Note1Innewandusedoils,theconstituentsthatmaybeconsideredtohaveacidiccharacteristicsincludeorganicandinorganicacids,esters,phenoliccompounds,lactones,resins,saltsofheavymetals,saltsofammoniaandotherweakbases,acidsaltsofpolybasicacids,andadditionagentssuchasinhibitorsanddetergents.1.2Thetestmethodmaybeusedtoindicaterelativechangesthatoccurinoilduringuseunderoxidizingconditionsregardlessofthecolororotherpropertiesoftheresultingoil.Althoughthetitrationismadeunderdefiniteequilibriumconditions,thetestmethodisnotintendedtomeasureanabsoluteacidicpropertythatcanbeusedtopredictperformanceofoilunderserviceconditions.Nogeneralrelationshipbetweenbearingcorrosionandacidnumberisknown.Note2TheacidnumberobtainedbythisstandardmayormaynotbenumericallythesameasthatobtainedinaccordancewithTestMethodsD974andD3339.Therehasnotbeenanyattempttocorrelatethismethodwithothernon-titrationmethods.Note3AfewlaboratorieshavemadetheobservationthatthereisadifferenceinTestMethodD664resultswhenaqueousversusnonaqueousbuffersareused.1.3hevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
